Skin peels – what do you need to know?

Chemical peels remove dead skin cells and stimulate the growth of new cells using a chemical solution which is applied to the face.

Used to treat a variety of skin conditions, the right chemical peel can produce excellent results.

Chemical peel treatments activate enzymes (proteins that help speed up chemical reactions) that helps get rid of older, degrading collagen in the skins matrix.  After the treatment, fibroblasts (cells that support the formation of connective tissue) produce new collagen fibres, elastin and hyaluronic acid leaving skin rejuvenated as a result.

Of course, chemical peels can differ in strength, and some are more suitable for certain conditions and desired outcomes than others.

Milk Peel treatment is what’s known as a superficial chemical peel and is ideal for loss of tone, fine lines or a dull complexion. It helps regulate oily skin, improves fine lines and wrinkles, evens out an uneven skin tone and improves the skin’s complexion.

A great benefit of the milk peel is that it is suitable for all skin types and colours, is a quick (about 10 minutes) and easy procedure that requires no downtime, produces hardly any peeling if any, and is a great introduction to chemical peel treatments.

Cosmo Peel treatment is the next step up – more of a superficial to medium intensity. Cosmo Peel is recommended to treat wrinkles, skin texture and pigment disorders and smoker’s complexion. It reduces age-related wrinkles, acne and pigment spots and improves texture and smoothness.

Benefits of the Cosmo Peel include safe and controlled penetration of the skin, the social downtime is low, and it complements and enhances the effects of other aesthetic treatments such as mesotherapy. Depending on the strength of treatment required, the Cosmo Peel can be applied as 3 different intensities based on skin type.

Cosmo Peel Forte is a medium to deep chemical peel treatment and provides a more intensive approach to irregular skin texture, smoker’s complexion, and pigment disorders. Like the Cosmo Peel, it reduces the signs of acne, ageing and pigment spots in a more rigorous way.

Cosmo Peel Forte would only be recommended for certain skin types which is why assessment by someone highly qualified to carry out specialist aesthetic treatments is key.

Having a chemical peel treatment can feel like a big decision so it’s important to make sure that you find an experienced and suitably qualified practitioner who will answer your questions and guide you through the process with your safety and care as their focus.
